Suggest Treatment For Severe Itchiness And Pain In The Ear

The outside of my ear (Top lobe region) is horribly itchy and almost painful at times. However, nothing visible and no itching or pain inside the ear. I am on Zyrtec everyday for allergies, for years now, but nothing drives me crazy as this does. I woke up in the middle of the night and I must have been scratching so much my ear bleed (outside-top of lobe). I take blood pressure meds, citalipram (sp) , vitamins, baby asa, testosterone. Do I see an ENT or PCP or just chop it off?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have severe itchiness and pain in the ear which could be due to ear infection. Need not to worry about it. I would suggest you to take antibiotic Ciprofloxacin you are not allergic to it along with Ibuprofen and Loratadine. Put Otogesic ear drops 2-3 times a day. you should take proper rest. Try to avoid excessive use of mobile as it will put more pressure. If symptoms keeps on persisting you should visit ENT specialist once and get it examined and start treatment after proper prescription. Doctor will examine with otoscope and order CT scan .Get all the lab tests done for proper examination. For now take benadryl twice a day a, keep your ear dry and apply warm compresses to external ear .
