Suggest Treatment For Severe Knee Pain

I fell on ice and landed on the top of my foot as though was the sole and directly on my knee cap early this morning. I have been icing periodically and walking intermittently but the top of my foot is swollen from my big toe to ankle and across the bridge. There is no bruising on foot yet but I can barely walk now any contact with the foot is excruciating. Should this be x-rayed or is it just sore from the fall?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for your query.
From description it seems to be soft tissue injury .
You need an x-ray to rule out any bony injury.
I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance.
Beside icing and elevating it, you can take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more concern.
Warm Regards.
