Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, My mother has been experiencing severe leg pain since August. This pain is occuring in one leg only. The calf is swollen (as compared to the other) and has an approx. 2 - 3 inch round red spot. She has been told that the pain is being caused by back issues and has subsequently had two epidorals which have given her some relief. Although she has mild lower back pain, the most severe pain is localized in her calf and continues to bother her. I, personally, don t believe that her back is the cause since the pain does not travel down through her thigh. Your thoughts. . .
I have studied your case. Your symptoms suggest possibility of Deep vein thrombosis.
Ultrasonography/colour Doppler leg will help to rule pathology leading to pain and swelling like deep vein thrombosis.
I will advise you to do MRI spine to see for any nerve compression. Consulting your doctor infection /cellulitis can be ruled out; antibiotic can be started according to examination.
If required you may need to do blood investigation for prognosis and recovery.
Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.
Wishing you good health.
Take care.
