Humira is a powerful drug used to treat specific types of arthritis such as
rheumatoid arthritis or
ankylosing spondylitis. It is not used to treat pain from arthritis from aging or
injury. Humira and related drugs have many potential serious side effects so they are used very carefully in very specific situations. They are used to control the disease process and prevent further damage from occurring to the joint.
Based on what you have said about your brother's condition, this is NOT a drug he should be using. It sounds more like
osteoarthritis, which Humira will not help. Once bone is rubbing on bone or
nerve, the condition is already advanced to the point where a disease modulator will not be helpful, even if he has a specific condition in which Humira is indicated. If he does have generalized rheumatoid arthritis, it might prevent advancement of disease in other joints, but the currently affected areas will still require pain control as the damage has already occurred.
Depending on the nature of his hip condition, he might benefit from a
hip replacement. Other surgery may be helpful for the neck. It depends on what exactly is causing the problems in those areas. Hope this helps.
