Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i am 26 yrs old and for the past 3-4 months i have been having maybe every other week a sharp pain over my heart, above my left breast but more towards the center. temporarily so sharp it takes my breath away b/c of the pain. but only for 2-3 seconds. no arm numbness or any other pain. Should i be seeking medical attention? my family does have a history of congestive heart failure.
Hi welcome to HCM. I understand your query and concern. Chest pain in your case reeds rapid evaluation for ischemic heart disease. I advise you to have a baseline 2 dimensional echocardiography,ECG and lipid profile to assess the basic cardiac reserve of your heart.Restrict the intake of salt to less than 6g/day.Regular physical exercise in the form of brisk walk for 20 min a day for 5 days a week is pretty useful.Drugs like beta blockers and nitrates will help to improve chest pain.Cardiac disorders run the risk of familial inheritance.Coronary angiography and percutaneous stenting will help to offer permanent cure.Hence I advise you to seek medical attention at the earliest.Consult a Cardiologist for further expert management.Post your further queries if any. Thank you.
