Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
about 4 months ago i fell and broke my shoulder. i was told i didn t need surgery and had 3-4 breaks. the bone is healing but is still not completely healed. not frozen and pt is happy with my progress. i m 65 and want to get back to light duty and my regular job as a nurse. what might be the next step in my tx ?
Hello , Since you PT is happy with your progress , I presume the range and strength has developed too, proportionate to the time since your fracture . If no, that's what you have to concentrate on , with your pt's help of course. Progression of the exercises will depend on bone healing ,and the pt and your ortho will work closely to monitor your progress. You shouldn't load your shoulder too much too early . It needs to be rehabilitated well, and exposed to loading , before you may start your duties as a nurse. In any case , I will not advice you to do any kind of pulling, tugging , lifting ( which may be needed in your job ) , unless you have had sufficient practise of loading your arm in your pt sessions and your physio gives you a go ahead ! The next step should definitely be continuing your physiotherapy to get the shoulder stronger , improve the range and improve the proprioceptive function of the joint . Hope this helps ! Tc
