Suggest Treatment For Skin Burn On Hand

My husband burned his right hand badly with 410A Freon and it is horrible blistered, very swollen all fingers, back of hand and palm...he of course will not go to dr. to see what should be done. Can you please advise: should he wear a glove or not. Should he soak in any thing, or anything he should put on it. What if any signs should be watched for that may cause other issues? Thank you. Frustrated wife.

Hello. Thank you for writing to us

A burn wound would form new skin in about a week's time.
The goal of treatment is to prevent it from getting secondarily with bacteria till the wound heals and thus aid in healing process.
He should not wear gloves. Don't try to rupture any blisters.
You may use a betadine dipped sterile gauze for him to clean any raw areas.
After cleansing you may apply a topical antibacterial like silver sulphadiazine Or mupirocin ointment, twice daily and may cover it lightly with a sterile dressing.
Watch out for signs of infection like increase in pain, swelling, redness, oozing and frank pus formation.
If you notice any of these signs you must take him to a doctor.
These would entail that he would require Oral antibiotics to help resolve infection.

Regards
