Suggest Treatment For Skin Discoloration On The Penile Shaft

Okay about a year and a half ago I got a pimple like bump on my penile shaft. It went away but left a red mark. I went to my doctor who in a rush told me there was nothing I could do about the discoloration and to learn to live with it. Sadly it s not often dry and seems to me to be getting bigger. Is there any way to prevent this from further spreading and possibly regaining the original color? It s only one skin tone lighter when not dry. Thanks

Hello,

Consult a urologist. Your symptoms may be indicative of lichen sclerosus or vitiligo. Lichen sclerosus is a lifelong condition with periods of remission and flare-ups. It can be due to family history. An ointment containing steroid may help. Take care of your hygiene. If it is lichen sclerosus, you are prone to autoimmune diseases like thyroid dysfunction or vitiligo.

Steroid treatments are given for vitiligo. conservative treatment will be given with medications that work on the immune system may help restore color in small or mildly affected areas. Meet a dermatologist to detect other medical conditions like penile melanosis or dermatitis, etc., that may cause similar symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
