My 5 year old son has been getting hives that come and go. They randomly appear and disappear. They are itchy as well. Sometimes he even get some red patches on his face, sometimes in areas where he rubs. I saw one of his cheeks suddenly get red then within minutes its gone. His most itchy attack came on his hands, they became all red and hives appeared and they were extremely itchy, his feet were also itchy but the hives were not as evident on his feet. We brought him to his pediatrician and he said to give him benadryl and it might possibly go away within a week. It has been a week and 1 day today. Today he has been getting them off and on. There has been no change in his diet.
Thanks for your query . Hives occur when body give response to some external stimuli or some kind of allergen . Introduction of allergen to skin cause release of some chemical which make the skin to swell.
They are usually harmless until they cause problem like breathing problems ,swallowing problems .
I would suggest you to :-
- To find out the trigger factor which is a complicated thing , But the prevention of hives is he best thing one can do . So try to avoid the trigger factor .
- Give cold compresses to reduce itchiness . give cold compresses several times a day .
Until then continue taking antihistamine drug 'benadryl'
Hope your concern has been resolved.
