My girlfriend is having skin irritation on her ears. It starts to itch, and develops into soars that discharge puss. Oddly its on both ears. She s had no piercings, or trauma. According to the diagnostic program here, it says its most likely contact dermatitis. We ve tried a triple antibiotic cream which seemed to help. But it then returned. The itching is driving her crazy during the day......any other ideas?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted your history of your girlfriend getting itching over the ears, the pinna. The commonest cause is obviously allergic dermatitis and it is only by observations that you both can get to the diagnosis as to what are the things that are causing this. Once you get to know the causative agents, avoidance of them can help her the best. Prevention is better than cure. It can be due to the shampoo she is using or have molds and mildews in bedroom or may be ultraviolet sensitivity hence caused the skin to be more sensitive to particular allergens. Oral antihistamine, steroid can help the best., It is better to avoid any local applications as the base of such ointments causes the allergens to get stuck to the oily skin and cause such a problems.
