My husband has had a slow growing lipoma on his back over about 20 years which grew to about size of a golf ball. Earlier in the year it became purple and swelled with fluid, it eventually burst 2 months ago and has been oozing brown clear fluid followed by a creamy opaque fluid constantly ever since. GP gave him antibiotics a month ago but no response evident. He has an appointment to go back in 2 weeks but I m wondering whether to try getting him seen more urgently as it s now oozing flecks of what look like calcium deposits in the fluid? Just worrying about possible malignancy and wondered what would advise here? The lipoma looks to breaking down as it feels to be in several lumps rather than being a solid structure like it used to if that helps?
Sorry that your husband had to go through this. Lipomas do not burst. so what you think is a lipoma might be a sebaceous cyst that burst. What you can do now is apply warm compresses to the area where the cyst was present so that the remaining fluid and the cheesy material oozes out. Also, you can give your husband over the counter pain killers if he complains of pain. Moreover, tell him to get an appointment with a doctor if pus is oozing out of the cyst or if he starts running fever. Hope he gets well soon!
