Hi, I ve been researching about bumps that sear in the back of your tongue. These bumps came out of nowhere but they came after I severely burned my self when eating a hot soup but it s been more than 1 month and I still have them. There is no type of discoloration or discomfort. There formed into a b shape but I m concerned because they haven t left
Thanks for your query . The bumps at the back of the tongue are enlarged papillae . There can be many reasons for enlarged papillae like stress , trauma due to food or other reason, throat infection or post nasal drip.
These are usually harmless and can persist for longer period . So do not panic . Most of the times they go away by there own without any treatment.
I would suggest you to :-
- To suck on ice cube or drink cold liquid to help in reducing inflammation.
If condition doesn't get better in a week then consult oral pathologist for proper examination and rule ou the cause like lie bump , squamous papilloma or allergy .
Doctor may prescribe steroid medicine , anti inflammatory drug or antibiotics (amoxicillin) or anesthetic mouth wash.

There can be many reasons for enlarged papillae like stress , trauma due to food or other reason, throat infection or post nasal drip. These are usually harmless and can persist for longer period . So do not panic . Most of the times they go away by there own without any treatment. I would suggest you to :- - To suck on ice cube or drink cold liquid to help in reducing inflammation. - Gargle with warm salt water 2-3 times a day . - Avoid hot and spicy food . - Take vitamin B12 supplement . - Maintain oral hygiene. If condition doesn t get better in a week then consult oral pathologist for proper examination and rule ou the cause like lie bump , squamous papilloma or allergy .
