Hello,

Pain on swallowing is commonly due to enlarged tonsils or infection (bacterial or viral) in the throat. It could be pharyngitis. You are suggested to do sputum & swab tests. Get clinically examined by an ENT to detect if you have enlarged tonsils or Pharyngitis. Do regular gargling with warm salt water 2-3 times a day. Take semi solid food like oat meal, porridge, etc.

Take warm beverage, soups & plenty of water. For relieve from pain throat you can take acetaminophen (tylenol), one sos when pain. You can take a course of antibiotics in case of bacterial infection. Doxycyline and amoxy work well in throat discomfort & infections.

In case tonsils are affected, you will need antibiotics bit sometimes your treating doctor may suggested surgery to remove the tonsils. Get treated at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
