I have had a sore throat for weeks which has been aggravated by smoking. I have cut down smoking to about a cigarette a week but the pain hasn't gone away. Now I have a lump on the back-roof area of my mouth that is white and looks like bruising around it.

Hi Thank you for asking HCM I have gone through your query. If your throat is infected antibiotics will be needed. You can take tea with lemon, warm chicken soup and vitamin C.Gargle warm saline water is also helpful. If lump like appearance is there then better to get examined by a otorhinolaryngologist. Hope this may help you. Let me know if you have any further query.
