Suggest Treatment For Spider Bite

I think I may have been bitten by a brown recluse spider below my left hip. It has approx. 14 holes and raised red rash. This happened 7 days ago. I now have pain and swelling with a lump inside my left groin which I think is a gland. Should I go to the emergency room and get this checked?

Hi and thanks for asking us on HCM.

The brown recluse spider is one of 2 spiders (the other being the black widow) which is associated with significant disease and, very rarely, death.

The bite can either heal with minimal scarring, blister and redden or even become bluish and necrotic. According to what you have described, it sounds as though your bite has become infected (pain, swelling and enlarged lymph node / gland in the groin).

You definitely need to visit the emergency room and get the bite site and lump looked at. You will require a course of antibiotics to settle the infection. The bite site needs to be examined properly to ensure that there is no purulent tissue that can lead to a nasty abscess or dead tissue that can result in secondary infection. If there is dead tissue, your attending doctor will need to debride it to facilitate healing.

I hope this helps.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns....

As per your complain it seems that due to spider bite there has been allergic reaction to the toxic substance released by the spider sting under the skin.
It has led to red rash and swelling in the are of bite..
The swollen lump inside the groin can be swollen lymph node secondary to allergic reaction..
I would suggest you to take anti-allergic medication like Fexofenadine [allegra] or levocetrizine..
Apply a steroid ointment like Cortisone ointment over the swollen rash area..
Do cool compresses..
Take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..
Do alternate cool and warm compresses over the lymph nodes..
In case of no improvement in a week consult an Allergist and get evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
