Suggest Treatment For Spinal Schwannoma In An Elderly Person
My 85 year old mother has to have a spinal schwanoma (not sure on the spelling) removed. How risky is the surgery and what is the recovery time. She is in excellent health with the kidneys, heart and lungs of a much younger person. She eats well, exercises and takes very good care of herself.

Schwannoma is a benign, relatively slow growing nerve sheath tumor composed of Schwann cells.
Since the tumor may either push the nerve aside and/or up against a bony structure, it can cause damage and focal neurological deficits.
Treatment for Schwannoma is surgical removal of the tumour. Recurrences after total removal are rare.
Kindly consult Neurosurgeon in this regard for assessment of its severity and its management.
