my aunt has stage iv breast cancer that has spread to her bones and brain she is eighty years old and they have stopped all treatment .they are starting to taper her dexamethasone off.alltogether .how long will she last once it stops and what will happen
There are a few treatment options available even at her age in the form of hormone therapy. This is a simple tablet called Tamoxifen 20mg once daily which she can continue to take at home and which will keep her disease in check for some more time. As to the dexamethasone, it is not part of her anticancer treatment and was probably started on a symptomatic basis. The average expectancy at her stage without treatment is 6-8months.
