Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hi i have a 2 year old daughter who over the past few weeks, has been holding her bowel movements and wont go too the toilet my stand in GP gave her lactilose but i hasnt really worked over the past 2 weeks she has maybe only had 2 or 3 bowel movements now she is telling me that her tummy is sore what do i do?
Is there any fecal soiling of inner wear? Any pain on passing stool? Very hard stools with blood streaking? This suggest constipation. We need initial fecal disimpaction with suppositories, followed by oral laxatives for few weeks. I used to give bisacodyl suppository and oral PEG in such cases. Your pediatrician will guide you.
Meanwhile, include lot of fibre containing items in her diet(fruits and vegetables). Make her drink enough fluids. Try making her to sit in toilet regularly every morning and evening after meals. Bowel holding should be avoided at any cost as it further worsens the situation
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
