Suggest Treatment For Swallowing Difficulty

for the last three weeks i have had trouble swallowing, it has come and gone with varying levels of pain. I was just on the phone with a friend and it suddenly got so bad i cant talk above a whisper and it is very painfl to swallow.....any thoughts?
