Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I dropped a pan lid on my foot on July 4th. I had an X-ray done and no broken bones. The doctor said it was probably soft tissue damage. I have been icing it, elevating it and taking ibuprofen . It is still swollen and very very painful. Is there anything else I can do?
I think it can be a tenosynovitis or a hairline fracture. I would recommend you to repeat x ray and MRI of the foot to confirm the diagnosis. If there is hairline fracture seen then you will need a plaster splint for 3 weeks along with calcifying therapy, Avoid putting weight on affected side. This type of fractures can take long time to heal. If there is tendon sheath inflamamtion then I would suggest you to get steroid injection in the sheath along with compression bandage and hot water fomentaion.
you maydo strapping of foot in elasto-crepe for support and avoid walking ,elevate, exercise your toes till swelling subsides-it should subsidein 7-10 days,if not go for secnd digital xray for redifinementfor any crack.,sometimes there are subperiosteal cracks visible after few days
