Tripped and Bruised side of lower leg one week ago - immediately swelled up. Elevated it and used ice compress right away for a day. Then switched to heat. Now one week later leg is very tight and stiff, ankle has started to swell. Hot to touch, painful especially when I first stand on it. Any suggestions on how to treat this condition. I take prednisone 10 mg on a regular basis to treat lupus - SLE type

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Dear patient
Swelling , tenderness and now increased temperature all are signs of inflammation mostly cellulitis. Since you are on prednisone which is steroid drug you are prone to infection due to suppressed immunity. I would advise ultrasound of local part to confirm diagnosis. Start tab diclofenac plus serratiopeptodase combination for pain and swelling relief. Take tab augmentin 625 mg thrice a day for action against infection. Apply crepe bandage from toes to leg. All this measures combined will provide you relief.
