Suggest Treatment For Swollen And Irritated Skin In Genital Area

Hello? I have had this for about a month now, it seems to have been down a little from what it was before. Though, it was never that bad to begin with. There has been no discharge, no growths, or no pain. The skin just continually looks as though it s swollen & irritated. I haven t had any issues in my genital area. Nor has it spread anywhere. I figured I was chaffing, or something of the similar and it has not gone away yet. I m Rather puzzled. Once again, there has been no lesions, pain, growths, or discharge.

Hello,

Welcome to healthcare magic.

From your history and description, I would consider that diagnosis of vulval candidiasis or an allergic contact dermatitis.

Candidiasis is a fungal infection which causes swelling, redness and itching on the vulva. It may or may not be associated with vaginal candidiasis which causes white vaginal itchy discharge. You need to treat it with an antifungal like oral fluconazole. You can also apply a topical cream containing 1 % Clotrimazole twice a day for 2 weeks. An antihistamine like 5 mg Levocetrizine at bedtime will help in symptomatic relief.

Allergic contact dermatitis could occur as a reaction to various contact allergens like latex, perfumes ( in creams and lotions), deodorants, etc. If you can find any suspecting contact allergen , try to stop it and see if the condition improves. This could be treated with a mild steroid cream containing 1 % Hydrocortisone twice a day for 2 weeks.

Hope this helps you.

Take care.
