I have had ear infection since Friday and went to doctor on Monday where the doctor prescribed Neomycin. I went back to doctor on Wednesday cuz ear infection was getting worse so he prescribed me oral antibiotic (Amoxicillian) 800 ibeprophen and, and he said keep using Neomycin. I was such in pain by Thursday morning I went to urgent care. The doctor said that I am allergic to Neomycin. My ear was so swollen that the doctor had to put stint in my ear to get medicine down. The doctor then prescribed me Ciprodex. I have been using Ciprodex since yesterday, taking Amoxivillian since Wednesday, and taking 800 Ibeprophen. My ear still feels swollen and hurts. It feels like I have a lot of pressure. Not sure what to do?
Hi. Thanks for your query and an elucidate history. Sometimes a particular group of antibiotics may not work. In your case as there is severe infection, it may take few more days to get a relief. Continue taking the medicines as they are suitable and will work better in such a combination. I would advise you to go for investigations of the blood, urine and of the pus for gram staining, culture and sensitivity of the infected discharge to get the causative agents and to get a proper treatment. If required request for Injection amikacin and metronidazole in low dosage, add on a decongestant drops and oral tablets, probiotic, and multivitamins.
