Heloo pt- Abscesses that are caused by a bacterial infection are treated with antibiotics. Antibiotics work by killing the harmful bacteria or by stopping them from reproducing and spreading. Different types of antibiotics are effective for treating specific types of bacteria. General types of antibiotics include penicillins, cephalosporins, tetracyclines, and aminoglycosides. The specific type of antibiotic that is used is chosen based on the results of a culture and sensitivity test performed on the abscess.
