Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hi there my 8 year old daughter was bitten yesterday by a horse fly on her wrist/hand and it has swaollen up quite lot and red although she said is itchy and sore she does not seem to be unwell in herself no temp but the swelling is big, any advice please?
This indicates allergic reaction to the bite. Since the swelling is quite big and there is surrounding redness, it is better that you take her to doctor, as we need not rule out secondary infection also. If no infection, this will respond to a few days of anti-inflammatory drugs and antihistamines. Otherwise will need antibiotics too. Meanwhile, keep the hand elevated and give Acetaminophen for pain relief.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
