General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Swallowing of any battery including watch batteries, need an ER visit. These can cause a long term damage to the esophageal or gastric lining by chemical reaction. The longer the stay of battery, the more damage is likely to be done. These need removal as soon as possible with the help of a gastroscope connected with a grasping tool. Follow up is necessary to see signs of healing or watching for the bleeding from injured lining.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
