I have problems with my thyroid for about 17yrs. I was told I had Graves disease back then. I treated it with Radiation. I recently had a Thyroid Sonogram as I felt a lump in my throat and when I pressed it hurt. The study came back as follows: Right thyroid lobe shows normal echotexture without focal lesion Left thyroid lobe at the interpolar region posterior there is a 4mm oval shape, mildly hypoechoic nodule IMPRESSION: Small thyroid gland with subcentimeter nodule in the left love. Clinical correlation advised. Thank you.
The ultrasound shows a small nodule (4mm) in the left lobe. For the moment you don't have to worry about it. In these cases an ultrasound should be repeated after 6 months to see if the nodule grows.
You have been treated with radioactive iodine (you didn't mention how long ago) ,you should keep the thyroid hormonal level under control, because often it causes hypothyroidism and in rare cases hyperthyroidisim may be reactivated. Hope the information will help.
Kind regards, Dr.M.Guni
