Hi I have tightness in the front of the chest and high in the middle of the back during the night while in bed. I have to sit up for a little and drink some water. It does settle down a little but I can not get comfortable and cannot get back to sleep. It feels as if my ribs are squashed together David
Thanks for your question on HCM. In my opinion we have to rule out cardiac cause first for your chest discomfort. So better to get done ECG first. If this is normal than get done chest x ray to rule out pulmonary cause. If this is also normal than it must be due to GERD (Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease). It is due to laxity of gastroesophageal sphincter. So the acid of the stomach tends to come up in the esophagus. And cause the symptoms. Try to follow these steps. 1. Avoid hot and spicy food. 2. Avoid heavy meals. 3. Avoid stress and anxiety. 4. Start proton pump inhibitors. 5. Go for walk after meals. 6. Keep 2-3 pillows under head in bed.
