I woke up this morning and i noticed a slight pain on my left tonsil. When i went to the bathroom to rinse up and brush i noticed that there was like a pus like substance on the same tonsil i felt pain in. The pus look greenish and i noticed there was some blood too. I also noticed that it looked like the pus was covering a small hole in my tonsil. I had my fair share of giving oral to a man but haven t been active in weeks.
The symptoms you mention in query are pointing towards severe infection of tonsils also known as tonsillitis . Bacterial ( Streptococcus ) as well as viral infections can cause tonsillitis. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist without any delay , because this infection can spread to the surroundings . Doctor may order certain tests like throat swab test , viral culture test and CT scan . Doctor may prescribe antibiotic course like cefixime at least for 10 days along with anti inflammatory . In some cases surgery to remove tonsils (tonsillectomy) may be used to treat tonsillitis.
For now do warm saline gargles and betadine gargles . Avoid cold beverages and food .
Hope your concern has been resolved. Get Well Soon. Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
