Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi Dr. I was diagnosed with travellers diarrhea 1.5 days ago. However, I had diarrhea before that as well, it got better, but then restarted. I was originally prescribed flagyl for the initial diarrhea. And now have been prescribed cipro for the 2nd bout. I was told by the ER staff that WBCs and RBCs were in my stool. They said this is indicative of travellers diarrhea. However, the Cipro does not seem to be helping and whenever I drink and/or eat (very infrequent for eating) I have to pass a stool minutes later. It's as if whatever passes though my throat goes on to my intestines untouched. Could it be something else?

Suggest Treatment For Travellers Diarrhea
Hello I appreciate your concern. Looking at your description I would advise you for stool test for ova, cyst or protozoa. if you have report than please send me the reports. in my opinion you should take ofloxacin and ornidazole group of drugs which is also available as a combination drug. Meanwhile you should take lots of fluids like ORS lemon water and fruit juices to counter dehydration and electrolyte imbalances. Probiotics will definitely help you by increasing the healthy colonic bacteria, you can take curd, banana and other fruits. Hope this answers your question please feel free to ask for further assistance,I will be happy to help you. Best wishes
