My maid has been diagnosed with peritoneal TB, she has no cough and the X ray of lungs shows no indication of pulmonary TB. The problem is that she used to look after my child since last 15 months and the child is now 25 months. She was staying full time with us. since last 15 months(she is an orphan and used to dwell in a slum her father died of suspected TB pulmonary) She has been vaccinated in her childhood with BCG, yet she has been found infected. How much at risk is my child? we are anyways getting my child tested. But still
Usually peritoneal TB is not infective, provided lung involvement is completely ruled out..sometimes because of low grade involvement of lung, sputum examination & xray would be normal..if at all ur maid has some lung involvement, few lesions in CT thorax, then ur child has to take chemoprophylaxis for TB for 6 months...& if only peritoneal TB, then just consult pediatrician for any active TB disease in child by xray, montoux test etc..if everything is fine, then no treatment
