Suggest Treatment For Twin To Twin Transfusion During Pregnancy

Hi, my wife is 25 weeks pregnant with twins, two weeks ago we found out that twin to twin transfusion had started. Also, causing the recipients heart to pump harder than it should. We had fluid drained from her stomach to relieve the pressure. Everything went well with the procedure, now we are finding out that after the procedure, the heart is still pumping harder than it should, and now has fluid in his stomach. What are the chances that the fluid will go away by its self, and the babies heart will start to pump correctly?

OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine 's  Response
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Twin to twin transfusion syndrome starting in second trimester should be treated effectively, if fetal lives have to be saved. If the recipient twin is having fluid in the abdomen, that means he is having heart failure and hydrops. In this condition, bipolar laser coagulation of the vessel connecting the two twins should be done to stop the blood flow between them, and hence cure the condition.
I would suggest you to consult a fetal medicine specialist for appropriate treatment.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Wishing you good health.
