Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello! I had surgery 3 years ago for a fistula in my belly button. It was removed. The symptoms I had was foul odor and discharge that would dry up and be crusty. The discharge was white. Once removed the surgeon said it was a fistula. The symptoms have returned. It is not crusty, but itchy, foul odor and white stuff. Does this mean I need to have surgery again, what would you reccommend? Thank you!
Hi and welcome to HCM. Thanks for the query.
Such fistulas have tendency to recur and there may be periods of remissions, but the only permanent soulution would be surgical excision of fistula which is simple and routine procedure today. So this I recommend since otherwise you may have recurent problems with infections and discharge.
I hope I have answered your question.
Wish you good health. Regards
