Last night I just started my period. Today it was just light spotting. Just a few minutes ago I went to the bathroom and when I finished I saw three very light pink clumps, maybe the size of shirt buttons, in the toilet. I was wondering what they were. And I know they are not blood clots because I ve passed those before...

Hi,

The clumps you noticed can either be blood clots, mucus plugs or products of conception if miscarriage occurred. The only way to differentiate these would be through a pathological examination which is not warranted.

If the bleeding stops after few days as in normal menstrual cycles, there is nothing to be worried about. If bleeding/spotting is persistent, or if you develop other symptoms like abdominal pain, frequent urination. etc., follow up with your ObGyn.
