Suggest Treatment For Uterine Fibroids

I am 53 years old. At age 49 to age 51 I had not period and then it came back full force only to find out that I have fibroids. My gynecologist put me on the pills so I was only having a period for 3 months and then I insisted that she take me off last March 2014. To date I have not have any bleeding until recently I have been seeing light pink spotting not much but when I wipe I see it. My gynocolgist refuses to give me a hysterectomy as she says that as I age the fibroids can shrink. What could be causing the pink discharge?

Hi,

Your gynecologist is right in telling you that many a times these fibroids shrink themselves, after the age of menopause due to lower level of estrogens. Hence it seems perfect to wait for certain period and observe, if the fibroids shrink completely and there is no bleeding.

The presence of pink discharge may be due to very light bleeding from the fibroids which may not have shrinked yet completely. However, if bleeding does not stop even after a prolonged period or if there is very heavy bleeding, then hysterectomy may be the only solution for it.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
