Suggest Treatment For Vaginal Discharge During Pregnancy
i am 36 weeks pregnant and took metronidazole vaginal gel to cure B for 7 days. I am now noticing thick white discharge to what i think is a yeast infection. I went to buy monistat 3 (miconazole) and am anxious to treat this. My question is, should i finish treatment of metronidazole? Or should i stop treatment & start yeast infection treatment? Will this harm my baby in any way? Please Help!

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your concern You are pregnant 36 weeks. Have white discharge 7 are confused weather it's trichomonal or yeast infection. Though both have white discharge, there are some differences- - Trichomonal infection has curd like discharge, while in yeast infection it is cottage cheese like discharge with foul smell. Itching is common in both, but yeast infection has soreness/redness along with it. * To differentiate it perfectly & have specific medicine is important at this stage of pregnancy. so- - consult a doctor, he may ask for vaginal swab test if needed. _ Take specific medications prescribed by doctor ( Oral/local). Treatment of both partners is essential for irradication of problem. Thanks.
