Suggest Treatment For Vomiting And Diarrhea

Hi. My son has been vomiting all day apparently. He was experiencing heartburn, feeling faint and diarrhea. I don't know if he did faint or not. I did not actually talk to him. His girlfriend called me and asked my what to do. I suggested that because he was vomiting and experiencing diarrhea that he should have some water mixed with salt and sugar to replace the electrolytes. Someone told me to do this when he was a baby and had constant diarrhea. He is aged 24 and currently out of a job. He adamantly refuses to go to the emergency department stating that he would prefer to sleep. (He was unable to sleep all last night. Maybe it was because of vomiting and diarrhea? I don't know for sure.)

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history about your 24 year old son and understood the concerns.
Diarrhea, vomiting, heartburn and feeling faint is surely suggestive of Gastroenteritis.
Since he is out of house and with his girlfriend, you can ask her to give him electrolyte solutions, plenty of oral fluids, PPI like Omeprazole, antacid every three hours and see the results.
If there is no improvement, then surely he will need to consult a Doctor and get a clinical evaluation, examination and investigations of stool, blood and urine; get a prescription based Domperidone, antibiotic and whichever necessary for symptomatic relief as well as to be supportive treatment along with a definitive management.
