Suggest Treatment For Vomiting , Nausea And Diverticulitis

Hello, I am a 51 year old woman who has been diagnosed with diverticulitis. It is very painful. I have been on antibiotics more than three times for the infection. My symptoms are severe pain on the left and sometimes on the right, nauseous, fatigue, vomiting and not having bowel movements for days. Seems that once I vomit, I crave salty foods because of the low amount of electrolytes in my system. I had an ultrasound and that came back normal. But how can I feel so horrible with these symptoms and have a normal abdominal ultrasound. This has been going on for years. I was wondering if an endoscopy will help find out what s going on. Please help me. I m desperate. This sickness is starting to wear on me to the point when I am becoming depressed.

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

Diverticuloum is a abnormal outward projection of mucosa of the colon.

When it is get infected,it is known as diverticulitis.

You might have infection of this diverticulum leading to stomach pain, nausea, vomiting and fatigue or occasional constipation etc.

You may require antibiotics ( quinolones or cephalosporins) with antiprotozoals like metronidazole,anti-emetics,antispasmodics, probiotics and other supportive treatment.

Your family physician will know about it and may prescribe you the antibiotics.

You can go for routine blood works and upper GI endoscopy as you have done ultrasound of abdomen which was come normal.

Also, you have to be careful regarding dietary restrictions which should be low fat and high protein.

But the main cure is the only surgical removal of diverticulam because of repeated gut infection or they could be also chances of complications like peritonitis, bowel obstruction etc.

So,better you see gastrosurgeon and take advise.
