Suggest Treatment For Walking Difficulty In An Alzheimer S Patient

My husband has alzhheimers. this week he has started sleeping all night & all day. Sometimes has trouble walking but today could not walk at all-his legs & feet did not work and to try to get him up & down (out of bed and out of chairs) he would just yell how bad it hurt to move and I could not understand most of whatever he tried to say. Do you think he is in later stage or what? thank you

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I think the patient has restricted mobility since before the current episode. I think there's a good chance that he's been in the process of developing contractures. You will need to get him to regular physiotherapy. With regular physiotherapy the muscles will remain active and the pain that he has due to the developing contractures would be better. I have tried to make it as simple as possible. Feel free to contact me if you need any further information.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
