Suggest Treatment For Watery Eyes And Nasal Congestion
Dad was just discharged from hospital 3 days ago with new addition of Potassium 20 Meq QD... since his return, he has developed allergy symptoms of intense sneezing; red, watery eyes and increased nasal congestion with clear drainage. We have changed filters in furnace with HEPA 1500 filters and new filters in air purifier...he has taken Loratidine 10mg and Nasacort 24 hr. with no symptom relief...Can the potassium be causing allergy type symptoms? The symptoms are especially interfering as he has severe COPD and needs to also use a non-invasive ventilator at bedtime with a nasal mask...the sneezing is making that a bit difficult...
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of watery eyes and nasal congestion which seems to be due to allergies , hay fever, nasal polyps, chemical exposures, chronic sinusitis, tumors and a deviated septum. Yes it could be due to electrolyte imbalance in body. Need not to worry. Apply warm compresses on nose , keep your head elevated while sleeping, take steam and take benadryl twice a day. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan , nasal endoscopy , viral culture test and blood tests . Doctor may prescribe antibacterial or antiviral depending upon the diagnosis along with decongestant or expectorant .
