Suggest Treatment For Wheezing, Shortness Of Breath And Cough
I am on my third round of antibiotics and steroids with no relief of wheezing and shortness of breath. Also coughing. I had open heart surgery 8 years ago and have a leaky mitral valve for which I take water pills. Could this upper respiratory problem be related to the leaky valve?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Read and understood that you have been suffering from wheezing and shortness of breath in spite of the proper treatment with steroids and antibiotics. Also noted that you had heart surgery and worried about whether this is hte cause of your problems including coughing. Yes, this is called cardiac asthma and can be a reason of it. But for this you have to undergo the following: Clinical evaluation, examination and investigations for cardiac check up as well as X-ray of the chest and blood tests to determine the cause, This includes pulmonary function tests. Proper diagnosis alone can lead to a proper treatment.
