Suggest Treatment For Wheezing While Suffering From Cold Or Cough

Hi my 4 year old son has been diagonised to have allergic wheeze simce 2 years. Everytime he gets cold or cough there is wheezing which sets in a few days. I want to understand between mucolyte s, ambrololyte s, levoline , allegra, which syrup can be safely given instantly as soon as the wheeze symptoms begins? What is more effective? And usually what is the time duration for these medicines to work on the symptoms if started right on time? Thanks Anu

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

More detailed clinical history is needed. How frequently does it occurs per month? Salbutamol Metered dose inhaler with spacer will be more effective and with less side effects. If it occurs more than twice a week need to add inhaled Corticosteroids with metered dose inhaler and spacer.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
