hello, my name is debbie. i had high blood pressure - 160s/80s and was given micardis 40 mg. i stopped taking because i didn t want to take it. it has come down 140s/70s. next doctor said to keep taking, but i m not. why would he recommend to keep taking if it s not high anymore?
Welcome to healthcaremagic, Most of the patients once diagnosed as having hypertension will need to take medication for a long period of time. In your case I recommend that you get your blood pressure checked for 3 consecutive days, if your blood pressure is high then you will need treatment. Normal blood pressure for adults is less than 140 over 90. In order to control blood pressure follow the given below advice: 1. Regular exercise such as brisk walking for at least 30 minutes per day 2. Consume a diet rich in fruits, vegetables and low fat dairy products. 3. Reduce salt intake to less than 5 grams per day (1 teaspoon is approximately 5 grams) Hope that answers you question. Regards, Dr.Imaad
