Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mother has suffered with a drinking problem for a good part of my life she no longer drinks. She has been "sick" every day for as long as I remember. My father takes her to doctors all the time she has been admitted many times for causing harm to herself. I feel my father who is the only one who has a relationship with her doctors is not getting her the proper help she needs. her manic behavior has is worse then it has ever been. I'm 30 years old is time for me to step in. How do I go about talking to her doctors what can I do to get her the help she needs?
History of drinking, multiple suicidal attempts or self-harm, repeated sickness suggest that she may be suffering from Depression. Usually, all patients of attempted suicide are referred to psychiatrists. You should check if this has happened. If this has happened, you may seek your mother's permission to talk to the psychiatrist who saw her. If there has been no psychiatric consultation in the past and if she is willing, you should take her to a psychiatrist. If your parents have difficulty in their marriage, they may benefit from marriage counsellor. Hope this answer is helpful to you.
