Suggest Treatment To Deal With Withdrawal Symptoms After Quitting Xanax 4 Mg

I am a 32 y/o male 6 210#. I have unfortunately had to quit 4 mg/day of xanax, have been on it for 10 yrs. I have been off of it for a week. My symptoms are: 2 grand mal seizures, no sleep at all the first 3 days and then maybe 15 hrs of sleep total for the next 3 days. Now I m lucky to get 3 hrs of sleep a day. My eyes feel like they are gonna pop, restlessness, anxiety, legs tingling from my butt to my toes, jaw feels like I m on cocaine(I am not on that), mental fog. These symptoms are 100X worse than opiate withdrawals. What can be done to ease this that does not include going back on xanax? When is the most dangerous part of the withdrawal of that dose happen timeline wise? Do I still need to go to a detox clinic since it has been a week? What other medication could my Dr put me on instead of going back on those? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi,

Yes, it's not easy to stop Xanax after this prolonged use. The best strategy is changing to a long-acting similar drug-like diazepam.

We start with 10 mg of diazepam once at night and reduce the dose every two to four weeks by about 2 mg.

This way it's possible to get rid of it in a few months. You can discuss this with your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
