Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 68 and have a cholesterol of 270. I had a calcium score done and it was zero. My internist said i was fine not taking anything with a zero score. I exercise everyday for 2 hours. Eat gluten free. I am not over weight. My endocrinologist insists I need to take a statin. What is your bias opinion
You don't have indications for statin. Nowdays there is overprescription of statins. High cholesterol alone without ischemic heart disease or other elevated risk factors is not indication for statin yet. I would advise you to exercise regularly and avoid meals containing animal fat.
Wishing you good health
