Suggest Treatment To Help Fetus Change Position During Pregnancy?
Hi, my friend is 8 month pregnant, she is 26 years old, normal and very healthy pregnancy; but her baby is still sitting. The doctor says if in 3 weeks he doesn t turn over, she will book a day for a cesarian. Is there anything to help the baby to turn?
Hi, Welcome to Healthcare Magic. There are some positions which have helped some mothers. 1. Knee chest position-She should kneel on a mat on the floor with her bottom high in the air and shoulders, head and upper chest touching the floor. Keep knees hip distance apart and don't let thighs press against the tummy. This position helps to move the baby out of pelvis giving more room to turn. she should maintain this position for 10 minutes. She should repeat it 2-3 times in a day.
2. She should lie on her back with knees bent and place a pillow under her hips. The principle is the same as above. she should maintain this position for 10 minutes. She should repeat it 2-3 times in a day.
Despite doing the above if the baby doesn't change its position, she can discuss with her doctor about the possibility of external cephalic version at 37 weeks of pregnancy. This can be done in selected mothers and has a success rate of about 60%. In this after giving medications to relax the uterus the doctor tries to turn the baby to bring baby's head down.
I hope I have answered your concerns.
