Thank you for the query.
As per the history provided, your father is 47 yrs old suffering from dyslipidemia (Triglyceride 612,
Total cholesterol 208) and
Ischemic heart disease (probable coronary artery disease, hence advised for Coronary angiography). I would like to know whether he is suffering from other conditions like
Diabetes mellitus (which can worsen the TG levels) or
hypothyroidism.
It is advisable to lower the TG levels to 1. Avoid intake of alcohol,
saturated fat and refined carbohydrate. Also if he is a smoker it needs to be stopped.
2. Drugs of the statin group need to be started (like Atorvastatin or Rosuvastatin) to lower cholesterol and a fenofibrate may be added for additional effects on Triglyceride levels.
3. However, when an individual is taking a combination of these two drugs, the liver function test and CPK levels need to be monitored at regular intervals. Muscle pain may be experienced, which needs immediate attention.
4. If the blood sugar and thyroid profiles are not done, it is better to rule out any abnormalities in these parameters.
5. In case any central
abdominal pain develops, suspicion of Pancreatitis needs to be kept in mind (due to
hypertriglyceridemia)
I would ask you to consult your Cardiologist as soon as possible, so that these medications can be started under supervision.
Hope this helps you.
