i accidentally spill overheating oil on my hand yesterday and it leaves a big, grey burn on my hand now. What step can i do to prevent scar? I have heard that we can use aloe vera gel for better result, could you please tell me whether that is effective or not? How about Fucidin cream...should I use that instead of aloe vera gel? Thank you.
Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic
Whether a burn wound will scar or not depends on how deep the wound is; the deeper it is, the more are the chances of scaring. Burn scar such as this can become secondarily infected with bacteria which can therefore delay wound healing as well as cause tissue scaring. Prevention of infection as the burn wound heals is very important. The cream that you mention contains fusidic acid. It is a good choice as compared to aloe vera; fusidic acid being an antibacterial would prevent bacterial infection of the burn wound. I would suggest that you visit a specialist for a review as well.
