Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How can i reverse laxative (dulcolax) dependency? I use them everyday or else i will not have a bowel movement. When i do have the bowel movement from the lax, it comes out like diarrhea. How can i have a full formed bowel movement? I recently started to eat a higher fiber diet. Can having food sensitivities (dairy or gluten) be a factor?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted your history of dulcolax dependence for passing bowel movements. It is like diarrhea when you pass motion but does not happen if you do not take dulcolax. You are on high fiber diet now. I would suggest you the following: Start taking dulcolax on alternate days and try another on the remaining days. Try different laxatives like cremaffin plus and isabgol and other herbal products. Yes this can be an intolerance to milk and milk products as you have rightly said. Your keen observations will help to find the foods and beverages that cause such a problem. Consult a Gastroenterologist for Colonoscopy, clinical evaluation and further management.
